MLK Parade, March and Memorial Celebration

Sponsored by The Concerned Citizens of Atmore “Unity in the Community”. With the local theme, “Unity Keeps the Dream Alive” and the national theme, “Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day on…Not A Day Off.”

The parade will begin at 10 a.m., with line-up at 8:30 a.m., Monday, January 21, from the Houston Avery Park. The parade is sponsored by local businesses and organizations. The parade entry fee is $10.00 per unit with vehicles only and there is no charge for schools, scouts and marchers.

Applications are available at the Unity House, located at 313 N Main St. in Atmore, right in front of Hanjie’s Furniture store. All applications must be in between1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, January 18th or 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 .

Read and sign the CCOA liability form and bring auto insurance to get line up number when turning in applications for parade participation. All entries must have proof of auto insurance. PLEASE PRINT LEGIBLY AND RETURN COMPLETED APPLICATION

All entries entering the contest must follow the guidelines. Floats must be decorated according to local theme, must be neat, words easy to read, must have decorations secured on float. All floats must have a spotter on both sides for safety. No one will be allowed to hang off vehicles, sit on fenders, tailgates or hoods. No loud music. Throw all candy to the ground.

Parade entry fee $10.00 per unit for floats and vehicles. All floats entering the contest will have a $20.00 entry fee. Floats must be completed before 9 a.m. for judging. Winners for First place will receive $150.00 and Second place $100.00, 3rd place $75.00. others honorable mention.

The M.L.K Unity Prayer Breakfast 2019 will be from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Atmore Community Hospital Mason Auditorium. A donation of $15.00 per person is suggested . There will be a Breakfast-Silent Auction with door prizes and entertainment.

The Mistress of Ceremony will be Councilwoman Susan Smith, District 4. Others includeHealth Actions Physical Therapy and Fitness Director Roland Hall with Atmore Wellness; Unity-Pastor Crook-Old Ship Baptist Church-Atmore; Peace-Pastor Sylvia Barnes Roberts-Paradise Holiness Church of Atmore; Wisdom-Pastor Brennen Peacock first United Methodist Church of Atmore; Love-Pastor Michael Arnold- Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church of Brewton.

Martin L. King Commemorate Service

At 4 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2019, there will be a Martin L. King Commemorate Service with speaker Paul Lee at the First Saints Silom Missionary Baptist Church located at 1012 Sowell Road in Brewton. Vendors will be set up and the registration for the booth will be $25. Entrant forms are available. Anyone interested should contact Chairman Joe Watson or anyone at the NAACP.Parade

The annual MLK parade will take place Saturday, January 19, 2019. The NAACP will organize the events. Rise Up! “A New Movement for a New Day.” The Parade/March will begin at 12 noon. Line up is set at Brewton City maintence department on McLellan Street leading out onto Sowell Road. Ends at John L Fisher Center.

Celebrating The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; Keeping The Dream Alive.

The Century-Flomaton Improvement Association (CFIA) will have its 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebration on Monday, January 21, 2019, at the Century Agricultural Building on Highway 4 in Century, FL. There will be a motorcade planned for 9 a.m. departure from the old Carver Middle School in Century, FL. The main program will take place at 10 a.m. at the Century Agricultural Building on Highway 4. Participation is requested and community support to make this event a great success. All area citizens are welcome. There will be an a program scheduled and everyone is invited to join in to make this year’s event one to remember.
