Students come to rescue on seizure

FHS students praised for helping woman

Three Flomaton students are being credited with helping a woman who fell during a seizure and suffered a severe cut to the head.

Flomaton Fire Chief Steve Stanton said Chloe Smith, 15, Devon Lambert, 17, and Ryan Smith, 13, were inside the Circle K convenience store on Sidney Manning Boulevard about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday when the woman had the seizure and fell to the ground.

Stanton said firemen and EMS were dispatched to the store in reference to a female having a seizure.

“When I got there I saw one adult and three students helping the woman,” Stanton said. “They jumped right in when the lady fell out.”

Stanton learned that Smith had recently taken a CPR class and used those skills to help the lady. He said the lady had a major cut on her head and had rolled over on her back.

“Chloe knew she needed to get the woman on her side or stomach to keep her from choking,” Stanton said.

He said the students then helped roll the woman onto her stomach. She was later transported by ambulance to Jay Hospital.

“I commend them for what they did,” Stanton said. “A lot of times people, even adults, don’t want to get involved in something like that but the students didn’t hesitate.”

Stanton said he talked to the three students and they said they knew the woman was in trouble and needed some help and they want to help people.”
