Local students recognized by their universities

Locals attending colleges and universities in around the state and nation were honored recently at their schools.

Huntingdon College

Graduates of Huntingdon’s 2019 evening studies include the following locals, some who graduated with honors.

From Atmore, Candice Louise Dawe, in Business Management (Cum Laude); Reginald Deshay Johnson in Business Management; Annah Brook Nichols in Business Management (Magna Cum Laude); and Helen Marie Thomas in Business Management; from Brewton, Katherine Folmar in Business Management; Jerry Jason Newby in Business Management and Tiffany Atoi Barton Richardson in Business Management.

Brewton’s Joshua Barrett Fields, Class of 2020, was inducted into Sigma Tau Delta at Huntingdon College.

Sigma Tau Delta is an honor society whose purpose is to confer distinction upon students of English language and literature.

Frisco City’s Haleigh Ridgeway, Class of 2021, was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, established at Huntingdon in 1989 and Gamma Sigma Alpha, a national greek academic honor society, which promotes intellectual interaction between and encourages scholarship by greek students.

Ridgeway was also named to the Huntingdon College Office of the Registrar of full-time day students whose academic performance during the spring semester 2019 qualified for recognition on the College's Dean's list of high honors.

Auden Shane Lassitter of Atmore made the Huntingdon College Registrar’s Office list of students enrolled in the College’s Evening Bachelor’s Degree program who have achieved academic distinction in their coursework during the semester and have earned inclusion on the program’s Dean’s List of Honors.

Troy University

Troy University announces students who have been named to the Chancellor's List for the spring semester and Term 4 of the 2018/2019 academic year.

Local students who made the Chancellor's list include: from Brewton, La'Briah Marshall, Takeysia McFugerson, Mary Peace and from Atmore, Mekel Salter, Chelsea Turner, Ariel Whatley, Hannah Ziglar and Ziah Young.

Brewton’s Shantavia Autrey, Kameisha Blue, Ethan Bollenbacher, Trentarius Ikner, Caitlyn Smith and Carson Barnett of Atmore have been named to the Provost's List for the Spring Semester and Term 4 of the 2018-2019 academic year.

Troy University recognizes several students from Brewton, Caden Lodge, Jones Manning, Takeysia McFugerson and LaTeysia Montgomery, who completed the requirements for graduation during the summer semester and Term 5 of the 2018/2019 academic year.

Troy University is pleased to also recognize new students from Brewton who have completed IMPACT orientation and enrolled in classes for the Fall 2019 semester.

The local students who attended IMPACT include: Althea Marsh, Alexander Moulder, James Weaver, Sarah Grace Gerety, Antiunna Knight, Jalyn Nettles, Maria Solomon and Anna Grace White.

James Weaver of Brewton, Alabama, has been named to the Freshman Forum at Troy University for the 2019-2020 academic year.

The Freshman Forum is a branch of the Student Government Association specifically for incoming college freshmen, and members serve as representatives for the freshman class.

Union Univeristy

Nicholas Moore of Brewton was one of 622 students to graduate from Union University on Saturday, May 18 during spring commencement services of the 194th graduating class on the university's Great Lawn. Moore graduated with his Master of Arts in Education.

Jacksonville State

Daniel Killam of Flomaton was among the nearly 400 students who were awarded degrees in Summer 2019 at Jacksonville State University. Killam received a MSE in Instructional Leadership.

University of Alabama

The University of Alabama awarded some 1,450 degrees during its summer commencement Aug. 3. Among those awarded were: from Brewton, Brande Parker Brazile, a Master of Social Work; Duncan Laine Brittain, a Bachelor of Science; and Chanese Nicole Micheala Thomas, a Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences; and from Flomaton, Tristan Hunter Portwood, a Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences.

A total of 477 students enrolled during the 2019 summer term at UA, including Matthew Grant Megginson of Brewton, were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's).

The UA Dean's and President's lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or to undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.
