    Century Town Council President Luis Gomez, Jr. will act as interim mayor for the town of Century until the council decides who to appoint after Ben Boutwell submitted his letter of resignation on Tuesday, Aug. 21. Boutwell's term expires January 2025, so the council will determine a date to hold a special election for mayor. It is up to the council to decide when that special election will be held.     Due to extreme heat Jay High School's home football game Friday is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. but may start later depending on the 'wet bulb globe temperature."     The Brewton Council of the Arts presents the 2023-2024 Performance Series, featuring a musical in September, a performance by a local famed singer/songwriter group, a children's theater production and a night of storytelling and live music about life in the south.     The Flomaton Lions Club will hold its Pancake Supper fundraiser from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28, at the Flomaton Community Center, located at 628 McCurdy Street.
