    Two East Brewton residents were among five people arrested in Monroe County for hunting deer and night and additional game infractions. On Sunday at 3:29 a.m., game wardens arrested Timothy Dueitt, 56, of Citronelle on charges of hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road, and hunting by the aid of a motor vehicle.     Local students Ryan Daniel and Perry Metzler, both of Atmore, were recognize as Troy University students who completed the requirements for graduation with bachelor of science degrees during the Fall Semester and Term 2 of the 2018/2019 academic year.     An East Brewton man who was being served a trespassing citation for being at an apartment complex ended up with a bed in the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton after police found 52.7 grams of marijuana inside the apartment being rented to his girlfriend.     Due to construction and remodeling, the Escambia County (Ala.) Circuit Clerk's office at the courthouse in Brewton will be closed to the public until Tuesday, Jan. 15. Circuit Clerk John Robert Fountain said his office was closed Wednesday and will remain closed to the public through Monday, Jan. 14.   • Letters coming to late tax payers

    As of Tuesday, $16,250,845.98 of the $17,595,199.33 in property taxes owed in Escambia County, Ala., had been paid and property owners have until Feb. 28 to pay their taxes before additional penalties and fees are added. Tax Collector Tim Pettis said collections are up compared to this time last year, but a little more than $1.3 million is still owed. Property taxes were due by Dec. 31, 2018. When the state or county has to shut down roads to make repairs it can cause hardships for people who use those roads on a daily basis, whether going to school, work or simply to the grocery store.
