Clerk's office closed until Jan. 15

Due to construction and remodeling, the Escambia County (Ala.) Circuit Clerk's office at the courthouse in Brewton will be closed to the public until Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Circuit Clerk John Robert Fountain said his office was closed Wednesday and will remain closed to the public through Monday, Jan. 14. However, he did note that jurors scheduled for next week's jury term that begins on Monday, Jan. 14, are to report to the main courtroom at the courthouse.

“We will be open on the 15th if all goes according to plan,” Fountain said.

Repair work will also begin in other areas of the courthouse beginning at 5 p.m. Friday and will continue through the weekend. The work is to repair ceilings and other areas that were damaged by leaking pipes.

County Clerk-Administrator Tony Sanks said the work in the other offices will be completed by Monday.

In addition to replacing the damaged ceilings in the clerk's office, the work there will involve remodeling and the installation of new desks and equipment.

Fountain said all other offices in the courthouse will remain open and conduct business as usual. He also said the clerk's office will be closed to foot traffic, but that the mail will be checked daily and all checks and other documents will be posted. He said if someone comes to the clerk's office to conduct business next week they will need to go to the post office and mail any fines or fees as required.
