White arrested on multiple drug charges

The former head of a drug addiction recovery group in Escambia County (Ala.) was arrested last week on drug and theft charges.

Meagan Malone White, 34, 1040 Jordan Road, Flomaton, was arrested Jan. 2 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of prescription medication, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and theft of property I.

Flomaton police were dispatched to 623 Upper Creek Road on Jan. 2 in reference to a white male and a white female, later identified as White, breaking into a residence.

Four Flomaton police officers arrived and made contact with the homeowner. The male told officers White was inside the residence and ran to a back bedroom when the officers arrived.

According to Flomaton police, White was located on the ground in the bedroom between the wall and the bed with a mattress on top of her.

Officers stated White ignored several orders from the police and she was placed in handcuffs. Officers also noted White had an outstanding warrant for her arrest in Escambia County (Ala.) for theft of property I.

Flomaton officers reported after getting White off the floor in the bedroom they found 3 grams of methamphetamine, the prescription drugs Vyvanase, Donepezil, Hydrochloride, Clopidogrel, Teva, Estrasiol and Dulozetine.

Court records also state officers found multiple clear glass pipes containing meth residue.

The escape charge was filed after White slipped one of her hands out of the handcuffs while in custody.

The warrant for her arrest on theft of property I stated on or about Nov. 16, 2023, White obtained unauthorized control of 2016 Chrysler 200 vehicle with the intent of depriving the owner of the vehicle.

White previously led the People Engaged in Recovery (PEIR) organization to help drug addicts get the help they need for the road to recovery.

In December, 2022, White spoke to a group at Escambia County (Ala.) Children's Policy Council in Brewton and told of her own addiction and how she wanted to help others.

"We help people bridge the gap between active addiction and recovery," White told the group in 2022. "Somebody who is in active addiction can't make calls, keep appointments, find transportation and make good decisions."

She said at the time there were plans in place to start a family and peer support group that will allow people who have family or peers in active addiction to support each other.

Following her arrest, White was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and jailed on $10,000 bond.
