Lopez pleads guilty to charge

Sentenced to 10 years in Florida for trafficking meth; now gets 5 years on ethics violation

Former Flomaton Police Officer Issac Lopez, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Escambia County (Fla.) after pleading guilty to trafficking methamphetamine, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Escambia County (Ala.) Circuit Court on an ethics violation for using his position as a police officer for personal gain.

Lopez appeared before Circuit Judge Todd Stearns Wednesday morning and pleaded guilty to the ethics charge. Judge Stearns sentenced Lopez to five years with the Alabama Department of Corrections to run concurrent with the 10-year sentence in Florida.

Lopez was originally arrested in December, 2020, when he met what turned out to be an undercover officer with the Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office at a location near Molino with the intent to purchase 2 ounces of meth that he was intended to distribute back in Escambia County, Ala.

After transaction with the undercover officer, Lopez was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola.

After being released in Florida on $100,500 bond, he was arrested in Alabama for using his position as a Flomaton police officer for personal gain. Court records state Lopez used a cell phone issued by the Flomaton Police Department to set up the drug deal.
