Primary ballot set for Escambia Co.

Two contested races will appear on ballot

When Escambia County (Ala.) voters go to the polls for the March 3 Democratic and Republican primaries there will be two contested elections on the ballot following Friday’s deadline to qualify, with one Democrat qualifying.

County Commission Chairman Raymond Wiggins is being challenged by Lew Najor for the District 2 seat in the Republican Primary.

District 3 Escambia County School Board Member Mike Edwards is being challenged by Jerry Wilson in the GOP primary.

Circuit Clerk John Robert Fountain, Circuit Judge Jeff White and Probate Judge Doug Agerton drew no opposition in the Republican Primary and will have no Democratic challenger in November.

Commissioner Brandon Smith is unopposed in his re-election bid to the District 4 seat and Coleman Wallace is unopposed for his District 7 seat on the school board.

Greg Dawkins qualified and is unopposed for the District 2 seat on the school board in the Republican Primary. Dawkins will face incumbent District 2 School Board Member Danny Benjamin in November. Benjamin is unopposed in the Democratic Primary.
