Century

Mayor Henry Hawkins said the Town of Century will not have a parade or public tree lighting this year due to heightened positive cases of COVID-19 in recent weeks.

“We hope to come back next year, bigger and better,” said Hawkins. “But this year, people are dying. There's no way to be safe, so we decided to pick a day and time and light the Christmas tree instead of having an event like we usually do.”

Flomaton

Due to the Escambia County School Board's decision to stay with its COVID-19 policy to not allow county schools to participate in events away from the school, the Flomaton Area Chamber of Commerce made the decision to cancel this year's Christmas parade that would have prevented the Flomaton High School Band, cheerleaders and others to participate.

The chamber is considering holding a Christmas decorating contest for businesses and residents, with cash prizes going to the winners.

If anyone is interested in participating in the decorating contest, they need to call 251-296-2471 and speak with Kelli Hammond or Larry White. Participation will determine if the chamber moves the project forward.
