Local elections follow state trend

This past Tuesday, March 17, registered voters in the Century and Jay areas as well as the rest of Florida turned out to vote on who they want to run for president, following a trend in Florida of voting for Trump and Biden.

Escambia County

In the town of Century, Precinct 22, 156 registered voters out of a total of 1002 went to the polls, with 272, or a 27.15 percent voter turnout. Trump received 41 out of 43 votes and Biden received 97 and Sanders got 12 out of 113 votes at the polling office.

According to escambivotes.com, the number of registered voters in Escambia County is 172,482. There were 53,667 ballots cast, which makes voter turnout 31.11 percent.

Out of a total of 220,984 registered voters, Republicans are 98,292, or 44.48 percent; Democrats are 74,475, or 33.70 percent; no party affiliation are 45,408, or 20.55 percent and minor parties make up 2,809 voters, or 1.27 percent of the total. Trump received 26,477, or 94.40 percent votes out of 28,048 total. Biden got 17,019 votes, or 66.72 percent out of 25,508 total Democratic votes.

Santa Rosa County

With 1,646 registered voters in the town of Jay, 260, or 23 percent, went to the polls Tuesday to cast 383 votes: 201 out of 209 for Trump; and 51 total Democrat votes, Biden got 20 and Sanders got 18.

According to votesantarosa.com, 105,760 out of 137,092 active registered voters cast 25,322 votes in Santa Rosa County, for a 23.94 percent voter turnout. Democrats cast 26,105, or 19 percent of the votes. Republican votes made up 79,999, or 58 percent of the votes and other made up 30,988, or 23 percent of the vote.

By party affiliation, Trump won 16,494 out of 17,241, or 95.67 percent of the Republican votes.

Biden won 4,775 votes, 59.74 percent out of a total 7,993 Democratic votes.
