Students and parents encourged to visit websites for updated info
With the recent developments involving the Coronavirus and advisement to limit contact to suppress it's spread, the Alabama and Florida Escambia County School districts and the Santa Rosa School District in Florida have closed schools and supplied online resources to parents and caretakers to ensure continued instruction until students can return to classrooms, with Bratt Elementary School providing breakfast and lunch to students for the week of March 23 through March 27.
The Escambia County, (Ala.) Board of Education website advised, 'At this time our projected return date for students is Monday, April 6. Our staff is working hard to gather websites and materials you may use to keep children learning during this time.' The Escambia County (Fla.) School District has been ordered by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to remain out of school until Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
Superintendent Malcolm Thomas states, “It is paramount that the continuity of instruction occurs quickly and efficiently for the students of Escambia County. Therefore, remote instruction to students will commence on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Parents and guardians of students should expect to be contacted by teachers during the week of March 30, 2020, to discuss instructional continuity plans for their student.”
Superintendent Thomas will be providing updates to families and staff by automated telephone messages. Parents and employees are encouraged to monitor district media sources, including the district website.

Escambia County School District’s Food Service Department is planning to begin providing supplemental school meals from Monday, March 23 to Friday, March 27, 2020, at Bratt Elementary School. Breakfast and lunch will be available from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. every day that week.
Meals will be distributed in a curbside pick-up operation. Food items will be in to-go containers and will consist of ready-to-eat food items that should be consumed when received or should be quickly refrigerated for consumption at a later time. Meals are available for children and youth ages 18 and under.
If meals continue to be required after Friday, March 27, sites may be adjusted based on need and participation.

Coastal Alabama Community College
Coastal Alabama administration's top concern is the safety of it's students and campus communities. When spring break ends for Coastal Alabama students, and classes resume on Monday, March 23, all on-campus classes will be transitioned to online learning. The faculty and staff at Coastal Alabama want students to know that they are available to help them with this transition.
From Tuesday, March 17 through Monday, April 6, Coastal Alabama Community College will observe regular hours with very limited visitors on campus. Anyone needing assistance should email an instructor's first name then last name, then “@coastalalabama.edu”.
Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20 is spring break. The weeks of Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27 and Monday, March 30 through Friday, April 3 will be online instruction. Then on Monday, April 6, regular instruction resumes.
Students should keep an eye on their student email for communications from instructors on how to proceed in their classes online. School administration understands this can be a unique transition for students and have asked for all faculty to remain accommodating and sensitive to the needs of students. If students have any issues with this transition, they should email their instructor, who will assist. All students have also been enrolled in the new “Student News” course in the Canvas program. In that class, there is a link for students to submit any questions they may have regarding this transition.
