Body found is ID'd as McBride

Cause of death not determined for Pollard woman who was reported missing on Nov. 24

The body of a female found dead in the Conecuh River on Dec. 9 has been positively identified as 74-year old Eva Lisenby McBride, who was reported missing from her Pollard home on Nov. 24.

The Santa Rosa County Medical Examiner released the identity Friday, but the cause of death has not been determined.

Capt. Bill Blair with the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office said there did not appear to be any trauma to the body but the cause of death won't be known until the autopsy is complete.

McBride was last seen on Friday, Nov. 24 and reported missing by family members the following day.

Blair said multiple law enforcement agencies, tracking dogs and volunteers helped search the area around McBride's 670 McBride Circle home for several days with negative results.

Blair said the sheriff's office received several telephone calls from citizens who said they had seen someone matching McBride's description, but after checking on those leads none turned out to be her.

About 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, Flomaton resident Jeff Fischer was boating down the Conech-Escambia River when he discovered a body along the bank of the river on the Santa Rosa side about 1 mile south of Terrell Landing. Fischer described the area as about a bend up river from where Big Escambia Creek flows into the river.

Blair said the investigation into McBride's disappearance and death will continue until the exact cause of death can be determined.

McBride was born in Brewton and was a life-long resident of Escambia County, Ala. She worked as a cook at Jay Hospital for a number of years and was a member of Friendship Free Will Baptist Church.

A memorial service for McBride was held Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Friendship Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Rusty Burnham officiating.

She is survived by three sons, Gregory Leon Gavin, Carey Daniel McBride and Melvin McBride Jr., all of Flomaton; two daughters, Eva Evon McBride of Lancaster, Pa., and Cindy Brittingham of Flomaton; one brother, Carl Lisenby of Pensacola; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
