E-911 Board to put up tower

The Escambia County (Ala.) Commission gave the county’s E-911 Board permission to purchase real estate with the purpose of putting up a radio tower on Highway 29.

The commission passed the resolution Monday giving its authority for the land purchase.

In other business Monday, the commission:

On a 4-1 vote, approved an Alcohol Beverage Control Board off premises beer and wine license for Brewton Food Mart in Riverview. It was noted the Riverview Town Council had already voted to approve the license. Commissioners David Stokes, Brandon Smith, David Quarker and Raymond Wiggins voted yes and Commissioner Larry White voted no.

Conducted a polling place review as required by state law. County Clerk-Administrator Tony Sanks said the commission needed to verify that the county provides one voting machine per 2,400 registered voters at each polling place. Sanks said the only polling places, Brewton Community Center, Atmore City Hall and Atmore Public Library, require additional machines due to the number of registered voters.
