Perry sentenced to 20 years for robbery

Pensacola resident William Perry, Jr., 56, was sentenced to 20 years in Florida State Prison on Jan. 25, 2018 by Circuit Judge Gary Bergosh, according to an Escambia County (Fla.) State Attorney's press release.

Perry was convicted by an Escambia County (Fla.) jury on Sept. 14, 2017 of robbery without a weapon.

On April 21, 2016, Perry entered Century Laundry and Self Storage at 9521 N. Century Boulevard in Century and committed a robbery.

The store manager, a 71-year-old female, was alone in the store when Perry entered. She was removing money from the washers and dryers when Perry came behind her and took the bucket of money, about $300 in coins.

Perry put his hand in her face, told her to get back and to go sit down behind the counter. Perry then demanded the keys to the store from the manager. When she refused to surrender the keys, Perry fled the scene with the money but without the keys. The manager later identified Perry in a photo line-up.

Perry's criminal record consists of escape, burglary, grand theft, resisting officer with violence and possession of cocaine as well as numerous misdemeanor offenses, including indecent exposure.

The investigation and arrest were conducted by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. Assistant State Attorney Frederick Longmire prosecuted the case.
