Atmore woman cited for leaving accident scene

An Atmore woman has been identified as the driver of a vehicle that crashed Dec. 12 and then fled the scene, resulting it multiple citations. Cortina Cemone James, 28, 900 South Trammell St., has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving while license is suspended and having an expired tag.

Flomaton police were dispatched to an area in front of 20502 Highway 31, Flomaton, at 8:26 a.m. on Dec. 12 and found an abandoned red vehicle off the roadway on the side of an embankment.

Witnesses told Officer Leonard Conley that the female driver exited the vehicle and made comments of not wanting to go to jail. She then caught a ride in another vehicle and left.

Officer Conley obtained a photograph of James and witnesses identified her as the person who crashed and left.

Reports note the vehicle left the highway, struck a mailbox, a culvert and a cement marker belonging to AT&T.
