  • Union Town sets the voting bar high

    Joe Thomas, Ledger Editor|Jun 14, 2018

I would hope that the people of this country would like for us to have fair elections where those eligible to vote are the ones who go to the polls and cast ballots. That might be a dream since the majority of the people in this country could care less who represents us from city hall to the White House. God only knows how much (tax) money we've spent trying to determine whether or not the Russians influenced our last presidential election. I guess we did that to make sure our elections were...

  • Silbernagel has a dream, let's help her

    Our View|Jun 14, 2018

We tip our hat to Maggie Silbernagel in her quest to develop a foster care home in Flomaton for young boys who have fallen between the cracks due to no fault of their own. You read everywhere about the need for foster parents and those willing to adopt children who for one reason or another have been separated from their birth parents. These innocent children have very few choices but those who step up to take them in, give them a hug and love them can turn their lives around. Silbernagel is working to establish the home at the old Charco build...

  • Protecting a Gulf Coast tradition

    Congressman Bradley Byrne, Guest Columnist|Jun 14, 2018

Down here on the Gulf Coast, fishing is a way of life for many people. It is a tradition that spans generations and is one way we bond with our family and friends. In fact, some of my fondest memories happened while casting a reel. I remember my father showing me how to bait a hook and teaching me about the patience of waiting for a bite. I enjoy carrying on that tradition with my kids. Just in time to celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week, Alabama’s 2018 Red Snapper season officially opened on June 1st. The Red Snapper season is a r...

  • Analysis of Gubernatorial Primaries

    Steve Flowers, Guest Columnist|Jun 14, 2018

Now that the dust has settled from last week’s gubernatorial primaries, let’s analyze the outcome. Governor Kay Ivey and Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox won very impressive victories. Ms. Ivey beat three well financed opponents without a runoff. She trounced them. She garnered 56 percent of the vote to 25 percent for Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle. Evangelist Scott Dawson and Mobile State Senator Bill Hightower brought up the rear with 13 percent and 5 percent respectively. All three men worked hard and raised money. It was a daunting task to def...

  • America- not good enough for Obama

    Pete Riehm, Guest Columnist|Jun 14, 2018

Iconic liberal columnist of the New York Times, Maureen Dowd, recently penned a particularly amusing and poignantly enlightening column about our 44th President: “Obama – just too good for us.” Not for weak stomachs, her syrupy sycophantic worship of Obama in an incredibly ethereal platitudes is more than enough to make average Americans puke. While Dowd seeks to extol and justify Obama as some pre-incarnate savior of the world, she inadvertently offers a fascinating candid insight into the liberal mindset. Her column could easily be dismi...
