    Social media recently erupted over Town of Excel employees shooting squirrels. A post was made by a resident of Excel alleging that a town employee was aiming a gun onto his property while a child was present. The uproar was fast and furious.     Should the Flomaton Town Council have agreed to pay former Police Chief Bryan Davis $6,634.62 in overtime and back pay? I'm not sure, but I do think the council made the right decision Monday night by agreeing to pay him instead of fighting his claim in court. Davis was making $56,000 per year when he resigned his position as Flomaton's police chief.     A McDavid woman who was operating a Nissan with no front bumper and a suspended license was arrested for meth after a search of the vehicle Jan. 8. Britney Marie Brown, 33, was turning eastbound onto Berryhill Road from Glover Lane in a gold Nissan Altima with no front bumper when an officer got behind the vehicle and ran the license plate, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office report.     A Montgomery man serving a life sentence at Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore died Dec. 31, 2019, following an assault the day before. Moses Robinson, 38, who was serving a life sentence at Holman for a murder in Montgomery County, sustained injuries during an inmate-on-inmate assault on Dec. 30, according to Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Samantha Banks.   • Commission OKs sale

    The Escambia County (Ala.) Commission is moving ahead with the sale of several old vehicles and a parcel of land on River Road, which will be sold to the highest bidder. The old vehicles were formerly used by the sheriff's office and now sit at the county's work shop.     A Flomaton man was involved in an accident in Milton Jan. 13 which left a bicyclist dead when another driver tried to pass in a no passing zone. Clayton Fischer, 23, of Flomaton, was traveling north on in a 2014 Kia Forte on Woodbine Road in Milton about 6:30 p.m. Monday.   • Officers OK'd to work other jobs

    Off duty Flomaton police officers will now be able to be hired for outside jobs to provide security to businesses and churches paying the officer directly.
