Freak accident kills cyclist

A Flomaton man was involved in an accident in Milton Jan. 13 which left a bicyclist dead when another driver tried to pass in a no passing zone.

Clayton Fischer, 23, of Flomaton, was traveling north on in a 2014 Kia Forte on Woodbine Road in Milton about 6:30 p.m. Monday. Bicyclist Anthony Hill, 63, of Pace, was riding in the center turn lane attempting to cross over Woodbine Road from west to east, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

A 2001 Nissan Frontier driven by 62-year-old Debra McBride traveling behind Fischer attempted to pass in a no passing zone. Subsequently, the front of the Frontier struck the bicyclist.

The impact knocked Hill into the northbound travel lane where he was struck by Fischer. Hill died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

No charges have been filed pending further investigation.

FHP Lieutenant Robert Cannon said a traffic homicide investigation will take 90 to 120 days to complete, citing results from an autopsy and lab work.

“Once all those are completed, we will see if the evidence supports any charges, if any are filed,” said Cannon.
