Jacksons threaten legal action

Charles Jackson tells Escambia County Republican Party the move to get people arrested began with the GOP

At the end of Monday night’s Escambia County Republican Party meeting in Brewton, Charles Jackson addressed the crowd saying he believes the Republican Party is responsible for the indictment and arrest of his wife Cindy Jackson, along with Sherry Digmon, Don Fletcher and Rachel Fore.

Jackson also said he and his wife are not going to let the matter drop and will be pursuing legal action against those involved.

Mrs. Jackson and Digmon both serve on the Escambia County School Board, were arrested and charged with revealing grand jury information. Digmon was also charged with an ethics charge of using her position on the school board for personal gain. Fletcher and Fore were also charged with revealing grand jury information.

“The last seven months my family has been through a lot,” Jackson told the GOP crowd.

Jackson said at the GOP’s September meeting, statements were made concerning the non-renewal of School Superintendent Michele McClung’s contract and shortly after arrests and grand jury indictments began.

“Two of our duly elected Republicans (Mrs. Jackson and Digmon) were arrested,” Jackson said. “They were the first two Republicans elected to county offices in Escambia County.”

He then noted that those two were indicted by a Republican district attorney (Steve Billy) and arrested by a Republican sheriff (Heath Jackson).

Jackson said they were all charged and arrested under false statutes and were fully exonerated by the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.

“I heard what I heard at the September meeting,” Jackson said. “Soon after that meeting a grand jury was convened and arrests happened and I believe it all started with the Republican Party. It’s red on red and that shouldn’t happen.”

Mrs. Jackson, who was not at Monday’s GOP meeting because she was attending W.S. Neal High School’s graduation, agreed and noted she and the others have been fully exonerated.

She and her husband said all the public has heard was the prosecution’s side of the story, noting that Mrs. Jackson made no comments until her case was dismissed. Although dismissed, Mrs. Jackson said she wants her record expunged and said those responsible will be held responsible.
