Six people shot in Frisco City

Two in serious condition; police are seeking help from community

Six people who were injured in a pair of late night shootings Saturday in Frisco City remained in the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon, including two victims who were in serious condition.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Tom Boatwright, two people were shot Saturday around 12:30 a.m. inside a vehicle on County Road 23. Those gunshot victims had just left the scene of a fight at a bonfire in a field on private property not far from the old ball fields on Snyder Avenue in Frisco City.

Fifteen to 20 minutes after the shooting on County Road 23, gunfire erupted at the bonfire, and four people were shot at that time.

The six victims ranged in age from 17 to 30 years of age, and all were transported to the hospital, including one who was flown to a large regional hospital by medical helicopter. All six remained in the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon, including two who were in critical condition, Boatwright said.

Deputies along with police officers from Frisco City and Monroeville responded to the shootings, and the ensuing investigation determined that at least three to four shooters were involved in the incident. Investigators believe that handguns and rifles were used in the shootings.

Boatwright noted that it was fortunate that ASAP Ambulance had three ambulances on duty inside the county at the time of the shooting.

The investigation into the shooting remained ongoing earlier this week, and investigators were still trying to determine what sparked the shooting.

“We urge anyone with any information to come forward and contact us immediately,” Boatwright said. “All information will be treated confidentially.”

“Your cooperation and assistance in this matter is crucial in helping law enforcement bring those responsible to justice,” Boatwright added. “As the investigation progresses, more information will be released to the public. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community and will continue to provide updates on this incident as new developments arise.”

No arrests had been made in connection with the shooting as of Tuesday afternoon, but Boatwright noted that the investigation indicates that some teenagers might be involved and that some of the shooters may live outside of Monroe County.

Individuals with information about the shooting are asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Department at 251-575-2963, 252-575-4716 or their nearest law enforcement agency.
