Lopez gets 10 year sentence

Former Flomaton cop pleads to trafficking methamphemine

Former Flomaton Police Officer Issac Lopez was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but given 346 days credit for the time he spent in jail, following his arrest in December, 2020.

Lopez pleaded guilty in Escambia County (Fla.) Circuit Court for trafficking methamphetamine last week. He still faces a sentencing scheduled for Jan. 3, in Escambia County (Ala.) Circuit Court after he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of using his office for personal gain.

Lopez was originally arrested in December of 2020, when he met what turned out to be an undercover officer with the Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office at a location near Molino. According to prior reports, Lopez agreed to purchase 2 ounces of meth that he was intending to distribute back in Escambia County, Ala.

After the transaction was made, Lopez was taken into custody on the trafficking charges and jailed in Escambia County, Fla., $100,500 bond.

After making bond in Florida, Lopez was arrested on felony charges in Escambia County, Ala., for using his position as a Flomaton police officer for personal gain. Court records claim Lopez used a cell phone issued by the Flomaton Police Department to set up the drug deal. Lopez was jailed on $200,000 bond in Alabama on the ethics charge.

Lopez was arrested again on Dec. 25, contributing to the delinquency of a minor after being accused to providing alcohol to a 13-year old.
