Atmore man faces multiple charges

Domestic dispute escalates; man jailed

An Atmore man was arrested on multiple charges after police were dispatched June 28 to 2940 Highway 31 in reference to a domestic incident that resulted in the man being transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.

Hartwood Oliver McMillan III, 33, 2940 Highway 31, was arrested and charged with domestic violence strangulation/suffocation, sexual abuse I, unlawful imprisonment I, domestic violence III and domestic violence criminal mischief.

McMillan appeared before District Judge Eric Coale on June 30 and was issued a $50,000 bond. If released Judge Coale ordered McMillan to have no contact with the alleged victim or possess a firearm.

According to court records on June 28, McMillan is accused of grabbing the female victim around her neck and choking her, noting she was unable to breathe and almost lost consciences.

He is also accused of subjecting the victim to sexual contact by forcible compulsion and physically refusing to allow the victim to leave the residence by blocking the door and shoving her away.

Records note the victim received a scratch to right side of her face, due to McMillan being accused of throwing the victim to the ground and grabbing her by the face and neck and squeezing.

McMillan is also accused of destroying the victim's cell phone.

The court records also stated the victim did not go to the hospital or receive medical treatment.
