A rabid bat confirmed in Flomaton

Precautions are urged

A fox and bat in the northern end of Escambia County, Fla., have tested positive for rabies and the Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed that a bat found in the Flomaton area in Escambia County, Ala., has also tested positive for the disease.

Casey Grant, senior public health environmentalist with the Escambia County (Ala.) Health Department, confirmed the bat found in the Flomaton area in March tested positive for rabies. He also noted there was human exposure. The bat was taken to the state Bureau of Clinical Laboratories in Mobile where rabies was confirmed.
