Swim coach is charged in 13 fraud claims

Angel Boyd released on $100,000 bond

A Brewton woman who serves as aquatics director and swim coach for the Brewton Area YMCA has been arrested on 13 felony counts charging her with fraudulent use of a credit card.

Angel M. Boyd, 49, 4691 Kirkland Road, was arrested March 2 after being indicted by an Escambia County grand jury. She was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and released the next day on $100,000 bond.

Escambia County Sheriff Heath Jackson stated the indictments were the result of a fraud complaint in reference to unauthorized purchases that had been made on a credit card that did not belong to Angel Boyd. The indictments were handed down on Feb. 24.

Court records show that Angel Boyd used a Bank of Brewton Mastercard issued to Audrey Boyd to obtain property or service with the knowledge that the card had been revoked, canceled or that she was unauthorized to use the credit card.

The total amount used in the 13 counts was not available.

Sheriff Jackson said an active investigation is continuing and other charges are expected.
