Board OKs plans for a new eatery

Food truck coming to Flomaton

Flomaton’s planning commission gave its OK to the construction plans of covered pole barn structure on Highway 31 that will be the home of a food-truck style restaurant with outside covered seating.

The property was zoned B-1 so the only action required by the planning commission was to approve the construction plans. Utilities Superintendent Shaun Moye told the commission that the plans met specifications and the zoning currently allows that type of business.

The business, call ‘The Spot’, will be located on a vacant lot at 22515 Highway 31, just north of the Flomaton Fire Station and the old pawn shop.

Amy, Greg and Keith Herman attended the meeting seeking the planning commission’s approval to bring the new business to town.

The application was signed by Greg and Amy Herman of Brewton.

The plans call for the 50-foot pole barn to have a concrete slab and a gravel parking lot. The Spot will also have picnic tables to sit down and eat.

Amy Herman said the plans are to pull in two to the three food trucks and sell items like hamburgers, hotdogs, cobblers and more noting the menu has not been finalized and will be amended based to demand.

The Hermans said they were originally from Georgia and noticed the limited number of eating establishments in Flomaton.

Greg Herman said they work in Pensacola, but ‘that’s not where our heart is’ and is looking forward to opening the business in Flomaton.

Amy Herman said they are hoping to open in early 2023 but said it will depend on the contractors.

With the lot already zoned for that type of business, the issue will not have to go before the town council.
