Florida votes Tuesday

No Century races on Ballot; seats to be filled

When Century residents go to the polls Tuesday, Aug. 23 for the primary elections, elections for the Century Town Council will not be on the ballot.

Council seats 3, 4 and 5 were up for election. District 5 Councilwoman Sandra Jackson-McMurray qualified and will face no opposition. Nobody filed to run for council seat 3 currently held by Leonard White and seat 4 currently held by James Smith, Jr. Qualifying ended on June 17.

McMurray-Jackson will be sworn into office at the first council meeting in January to establish a quorum. The town council will then vote to fill the vacancies for seats 3 and four.

After the appointments the town will conduct a special election not less than 60 days of the appointments or more than 90 days.

Century residents will be voting in the Florida Republican and Democratic primaries on races that include U.S. Representative for District 1, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, state senate and county judge.

Century Town Hall polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for registered voters to cast their votes for

Early voting will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. now through Saturday, August 20; at the Billy G. Ward Courthouse located at 7500 N. Century Boulevard in Century; at the Molino Community Center located at 6450-A Highway 95Ain Molino and at the Escambia County Extension located at 3740 Stefani Road in Cantonment.
