Murder suspect is behind bars

Anderson is accused of killing Flomaton resident Dwight Dixon

Murder warrants were signed late Friday afternoon on Caleb Scott Anderson, 23, of Michigan for the murder of Flomaton resident Dwight Anthony Dixon, 52, who was stabbed to death last Wednesday morning inside his Dixon Road residence.

Anderson was taken into custody last Wednesday afternoon and booked into the Shelby County Jail. Anderson is also a suspect in a homicide that occurred in Green Bay, Wisconsin that was reported Aug. 2, the day before Dixon was killed in Flomaton. He also faces other charges in Michigan where he is accused of trying to kidnap an 18-year old female who was jogging

First called in as a medical call Aug. 3 to Dixon's residence, it was determined he had been stabbed multiple times.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Flomaton Police Chief Chance Thompson contacted ALEA and the State Bureau of Investigation after Dixon's body was found and an investigation was launched.

Anderson was quickly identified as the suspect and was apparently driving a vehicle he stole from the murder victim in Green Bay.

ALEA officials stated Anderson was located in the stolen vehicle and was arrested by the USMS Gulf Coast Regional Task Force and officers with the Helena Police Department last Wednesday afternoon in Helena in Shelby County.

Anderson is also a suspect in an arson fire in Greenville that occurred after the Flomaton murder and his capture in Helena.

In published reports, Helena Police Chief Brad Flynn said he was informed by Alabaster police and the U.S. Marshal's that Anderson was entering Helena. Chief Flynn noted that at the time of the notice, the police department was in the middle of training and he dispatched more than 20 officers, some on duty and some off duty, to intercept Anderson.

Chief Flynn said Anderson was quickly taken into custody without incident. As of press time Wednesday, Anderson was still being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond.
