Man jailed for theft with fake ID and debit cards

Tried to use fake name again before the district judge

A Miami man accused of using a false identification to steal about $9,000 apparently used that same false name at his first bond hearing last Friday before Escambia County (Ala.) District Judge Eric Coale and the judge sent him back to jail. He came back before Judge Coale Monday with his correct name and given a $100,000 bond.

Joel Phillipe Davila was arrested May 19 by Poarch police and charged with theft of property I, illegal use of a credit and/or debit card and identity theft. He was later charged with using a false identification to obstruct justice.

Davila was in possession of an Oregon driver's license registered to Brian Alan Kemmerle and was also in possession of stolen or forged debit cards in Kemmerle's name when he withdrew the $9,000 at Windcreek Casino.

When Davila first appeared before Judge Coale last Friday he gave the judge Kemmerle's name as his own. Judge Coale said he was not going to set a bond until they figured out who he really was.

Davila returned to court Monday and given the $100,000 bond.
