'Tis the season for Christmas events

Parades, other events are coming soon

With the holiday season just around the corner, towns in the area are planning tree lightings, parades and everything in between to kick off the season. Here are a few events in the area starting soon.

Atmore

The Jingle Bell Walk will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, in the downtown Atmore business district.

Santa in the Park will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2. at First National Bank and Trust Park on Main Street. The Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the bank's park.

The Christmas parade will start at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, at City Hall and will end at Escambia County High School. $25 entry fee for parade floats. Theme is Christmas in the South. Barnett's Crossroads

The Barnett Crossroads Christmas parade line-up will begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, at the park. The parade starts at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be served after the parade at the fire department, 1003 Barnett Highway. Santa will be there to take picture with the kids. Brewton

Night markets will be held during the Holiday Kickoff tonight (Nov. 18), at Market Park.

'Celebrewton' Lights will be at 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, at Market Park. The Christmas parade will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10, in East Brewton on Schoffner Street and end on the side street past the courthouse.

The first annual Christmas in the South will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, at Jennings Park, featuring a snow machine, train rides, rib plates and more. For more info, contact 251-752-8368 or 251-752-1010.

Century

The Century Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its Christmas Open House at 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 3, at the Chamber office on 7811 Century Boulevard. There will be music, food and Santa.

Flomaton

The Flomaton Christmas parade will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 4. Entry fee for floats is $25 and can be taken by Larry White Insurance Agency. Prizes of $150, $100 and $75 will be given for the three top floats. For more info, contact Kelli Hammond at 251-296-2471.

The Town of Flomaton and the Flomaton Lions Club will sponsor a Breakfast With Santa from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, at Hurricane Park. Tickets will be sold at town hall for $5 starting Friday, Nov. 19, and there are 100 available. Kids will eat fresh pancakes, color activity sheets and have their photo taken with Santa.

The Town of Flomaton will have a Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11 at Flomaton Hurricane Park, 21001 Highway 31. There will be Christmas arts and crafts, food, drinks and more. Vendor registration is free. To be a vendor or for more info, contact Carrie Moore at 251-296-2431.

Beginning at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, the Town of Flomaton will have hot chocolate available and church groups will sing Christmas carols. At around 5:30 p.m., the Christmas Tree Lighting will take place in front of the gazebo next to the Flomaton Post Office on Palafox Street.

Parents, if you would like your child to receive a letter by mail from Santa, letters to Santa can be dropped off with an envelope with a legible and easy to read return mailing address in the big red box in front of Flomaton Town Hall between Monday, Nov. 29 and Monday, Dec. 20. The original letters written by children will be kept at town hall for parents who may like to get them back.

Jay

The Jay Christmas Tree Lighting will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 29, at the corner of Commerce St. and Highway 4 in Jay. Candles will be provided and there will be singing. Refreshments will follow and the event is sponsored by the Jay Ministerial Association. There will be bleachers for seating or guests can bring their own chairs.

The Jay Christmas parade will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, and will begin at Jay Town Hall. Following the parade, Joy in Jay will begin on Commerce Street with photo ops at Mistletoe Junction, a Scavenger Hunt drawing to win $1,000 (see details on Joy in Jay's Facebook page), and many other activities and events. Vendor applications are available through Nov. 30 at Jay Town Hall at 850-675-4556.

There will be a Cookie Crawl from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Linda Carden Community Center, located behind town hall on Booker Lane. Prizes and trophies for the winner. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the town hall drive-thru window beginning Dec. 1. For more information, visit

The Town of Jay will be hosting a wreath laying ceremony at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 18, at the Jay Cemetery. Anyone interested in donating may purchase a wreath, by visiting https://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/22836 to purchase wreaths for the ceremony.

Repton

The annual red, white and blue Christmas Celebration will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, in historic downtown Repton. Vendors are welcome and may contact 251-248-2370 for more information. Carter Hospital, located at 101 Burnt Corn Street in Repton, will feature tours from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Also, live music by the Gospel Melodies from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. guests are encouraged to bring a chair. Food plates will be sold and there will be kid's activities.

The Classic Car and Cycle Show will be from 10 a.m. to 10:30. A $15 registration fee includes homemade lunch and parade candy to throw.

The Military Hospitality Room, downtown at the Repton Civic Center, will featuring a complimentary homemade Christmas lunch at 11 a.m. to feed all active/veteran military and their immediate families as a thank you for their service. Service members do not have to be from Repton, all military or service members are welcome.

There will be a Santas for Soldiers Dash through downtown Repton at 11:15 a.m. These participants have solicited sponsorships to raise money for Christmas gifts to be sent to a deployed soldier who will not be home for Christmas. Be sure to cheer them on!

The Repton parade will be at 12 noon with parade line up on Jones Street near the park at 11:30 a.m. there will be $150 prize for the best float. Immediately after the parade, Santa will be in the courtyard for pictures and gifts. Parents may bring their own camera.
