Atmore man arrested after officers found marijuana growing in flower pot sitting on front porch

An Atmore man who was apparently growing marijuana in a flower pot on his front porch and has been charged with unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana I.

John Michael Rangel, 32, 492 Martinville Loop Road, Lot I, was jailed on $100,000 bond following his arrest.

According to court records, on Sept. 29 officers discovered the marijuana growing in a flower pot on his front porch, noting it was possession of marijuana for other than public use that led to both felony counts. Court records noted the pot of marijuana was within 500 feet of a residence, place of business, church or school.

During the Oct.18 bond hearing before District Judge Eric Coale, it was noted in court records that Rangel did not request a court-appointed attorney.
