Forty-five year old man sets up sex date on Internet with 14-year old girl; cops there

A 45-year old Brewton man who allegedly set up a sex date online with a 14-year old girl was arrested Friday, Aug. 13, when he arrived with three condoms, one breath mint, on Viagra pill, marijuana and one Oxycodone pill in his pocket at a pre-determined location to meet the girl, only to be greeted by law enforcement officers and not the young girl

Blake Thomas Martin, 45, 3161 Keego Road, was arrested and charged with electronic solicitation of a child, traveling to meet a child for sex, unlawful possession of marijuana II, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff Heath Jackson said on Aug. 5 the sheriff's office, along with investigators assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, initiated a criminal investigation involving sexual misconduct with an underage child.

Jackson said during the investigation, law enforcement received text messages that were intended for the 14-year old girl and due to the nature of the texts, an undercover operation was conducted.

Jackson said the investigation revealed that Martin sent messages to the young girl asking for sex and even stated he knew it was illegal to have sex with someone under the age of 16.

Jackson reported that on Aug. 13 investigators, posing as the child through the Internet, agreed to Martin's request for sex. Martin then showed up at the agreed location and was arrested immediately.

At the scene, the officers discovered the condoms, Viagra and drugs in Martin's pants pockets. Jackson said a search warrant was then executed at Martin's residence where electronic devices and methamphetamine were seized.

Court records show that Martin is accused of trying to set up a sexual meeting with the young girl at his residence and another residence Holly-Navarre, Fla. It states his comments made references to having intercourse and other sex acts with the child.

During a bond hearing Aug. 16 before Escambia County District Judge Eric Coale, Martin said he understood the charges against him and when asked, Martin said he would like a court-appointed attorney.

In his affidavit of substantial hardship, Martin listed having $70,000 in stocks, $900,000-plus in property, $12,000 in personal property, owned two cars and owned substantial property.

Judge Coale said based on the financial information provided by Martin he couldn't appoint him attorney.

On Martin's bond, Assistant District Attorney Kim Pettis asked Judge Coale, due to the nature of the crime, to set the bond at $500,000. She also requested he be ordered to wear an electronic monitor and possess no electronic devices if he was released from jail.

Judge Coale set the bond at $500,000 with the stipulations asked for by Pettis and also added if released, Martin is to have no contact with the alleged victim or anyone under that age of 18.
