Ambulance will stay in Flomaton

McMillan to place ambulance at fire station

The Escambia County (Ala.) Health Care Authority has reached an agreement with MedStar to provide comprehensive 24-7 ground coverage for the greater Atmore area and switch Flomaton's coverage to D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital's ambulance service with an ambulance still in place at the Flomaton fire station.

Jeff Booth, CEO of the health care authority announced the agreement with MedStar for ground ambulance service for the entire county as well as an agreement for MedStar to provide helicopter air service for the entire county.

He noted D.W. McMillan's ambulance service currently has two ambulances which are stationed in Brewton and a third has been ordered to have one stationed in Flomaton.

ASAP has been previously served the Atmore area, but the health care authority has agreed to allow the existing relationship with MedStar to cover the Atmore area.

“The Escambia County Health Care Authority thanks ASAP for their service to the community and looks forward to working with them to create a smooth transition of services,” stated the press release from the health care authority.

The health care authority has also reached an agreement with MedStar to provide air ambulance service for all of Escambia County. Currently, MedStar provides air ambulance service only for the Atmore market.

Booth said the new agreement will provide for a one-call solution for air ambulance service needs for all the citizens of Escambia County.
