Molino man killed in crash

85-year old Fant survives first crash, killed in the second

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency continues its search for the driver of a vehicle responsible for a multiple-vehicle crash Monday night near Flomaton that claimed the life of an 85-year old Molino man.

According to reports released by ALEA, Marshall Fant was killed in a collision that occurred after the original wreck at the intersection of Highway 31 and Old Highway 31 near the racetrack.

Fant was driving a 2014 Nissan Frontier when his vehicle collided with a 2013 Honda Accord. The report said Fant exited his vehicle after the crash and was standing outside his vehicle when a 2020 Toyota Camry struck Fant's vehicle, which slammed into him. He was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead.

Responders at the scene said after the original crash, Fant used his cell phone to call relatives to tell them he had been in a wreck but was OK. They were going to meet him at the hospital, but when they arrived they learned he had been killed.

The chain of events apparently began when another vehicle ran the stop sign on Old Highway 31 causing the original crash. Two subjects in that vehicle fled on foot. Tracking dogs from Fountain Prison were called but the suspects were not located.

ALEA's highway patrol division continues its investigation.
