Kay Wagner said all systems are on go for Saturday's clean-up day at the Flomaton Cemetery and said she's been overwhelmed by the people who have already been doing work and those who plan to be there Saturday, May 1.

“I'm amazingly surprised with the number of people who have already been there and done some things,” Wagner said. “They not only cleaned their family plots, but other plots as well.”

Wagner said the clean-up is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and people are asked to just show up and do what they can do.

“All you have to do is ride through the cemetery and you'll see something that needs to be done,” she said.

She added that Steve Creamer has donated a dumpster and Steve Stanton will provide a front end loader to haul limbs and debris to the dumpster.

“I talked with Angela at Flomaton Woods Apartments and she is going to get with her home office to get something done with the trees on the other side of the fence,” Wagner said. “Dale Ash (with Pepsi Cola, in Atmore) is donating water for all the volunteers.”

She also said Ronnie Herrington, owner of Herrington's II on Highland in Flomaton, is offering a 30 percent discount on flowers this week for people wanting to put fresh flowers on graves.

“There have been so many people willing to help I'm scared I'll leave somebody out,” Wagner said.

She said County Commissioner Scottie Stewart has donated trash bags, Flomaton's Leo Club will be on hand to rake and bag leaves, Little Escambia Baptist Church's youth group will be handing out water, Flomaton cheerleaders, Beta Club and football players will also be helping.

She also said Ken Jernigan is donating a bucket truck to help trim low-hanging limbs.

“Just look around,” Wagner said. “Anything you see that needs to be done, do it,” she said. “You can't drive through there and not see something that needs to be done.”

“I've put this in God's hands,” Wagner added. “Hopefully he'll give us great weather this Saturday.”
