Media posts shut down school

Brewton woman is arrested for threat against Pollard-McCall Jr. High School and Provalus

A Brewton woman is accused of using social media to make threats against her former employer and Pollard-McCall Jr. High School, which prompted the school to go into a lockdown Monday.

Elizabeth Michelle Smith, 25, 110 River Road, was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with making a terrorist threat against the school and Provalus.

Court records state Smith made threatening posts on social media toward her former employer, Provalus, and also made made mention of children, who she does not have custody of, who attend Pollard-McCall Jr. High School. Her post about students at the school prompted the school to initiate a lockdown. The nature of the social media posts were not made public.

Pollard-McCall Principal Buddy Powell said he could not comment.

During a bond hearing Tuesday before District Judge Eric Coale, Smith said she had no prior criminal record and was not out on bond or on probation.

Judge Coale set her bond at $50,000 and said a condition of her bond was that she have no contact with the school or Provalus. She is also banned from the property of the school and the Brewton business.
