Crapps, Dean absent to certifiy Flomaton results; Smith votes ‘no’ to certifiy Atmore’s election results

City councils in Atmore, Brewton and Flomaton met at noon Tuesday to certify the results of the Aug. 25 municipal elections with no changes in the outcomes, leaving Atmore as the only city to have a runoff election on Oct. 6.

In Atmore's District 5, Bub Gideons received 124 votes, Chris Harrison received 106 and Sandra Gray received 98. Gideons and Harrison will be back on the ballot Oct. 6.

Atmore had a total of 35 provisional ballots cast on Aug. 25. According to Atmore City Clerk Becca Smith, 10 of those votes counted and were included in the certified results.

In the race for mayor, incumbent Jim Staff was certified as the winner with a 918 to 729 vote victory over Councilwoman Susan Smith. During Tuesday's meeting in Atmore to certify the results, Smith voted no.

The other four council races showed Webb Nall winning the District 1 seat, Jerome Webster winning District 2, Eunice Johnson winning District 3 and Shawn Lassiter winning District 4.

Flomaton

Flomaton had no changes in the results of its municipal elections with incumbent Mayor Dewey Bondurant, Jr., winning without a runoff and Kay Wagner winning the District 4 council seat without a runoff.

Town Clerk Jamie Wilson said Flomaton had only one provisional ballot cast and the vote did not count because according to the Escambia County Board of Registrars the voter was not registered.

The votes certified Tuesday showed Bondurant with 183 votes, Chris Burnham with 115 votes and Kevin Knowles with 66 votes.

In the council race, Wagner had 41 votes, followed by incumbent C.E. 'Buster' Crapps with 36 and Adrienne Johnson with three votes.

Flomaton's election results were approved on a unanimous vote with Mayor Bondurant and council members Roger Adkinson, Jim Johnson and Charlie Reardon voting yes. Councilwoman Lillian Dean and Councilman Crapps were absent.

Councilman Johnson asked if Dean and Crapps were notified about the election and Wilson said yes, but she was told they wouldn't be there. Town Attorney Chuck Johns also noted the noon time Tuesday for the meeting was designated by state law.

Brewton

Brewton had two provisional ballots cast and David Jennings and Cheryl Barton each picked up one vote, but the results remained the same.

In District 2, Jennings defeated incumbent Lawrence Weaver 155 to 97; in District 4 incumbent Joe Watson defeated Patrick Hendrieth 135-71; and in District 5, Barton defeated Richard Royce 81-30.
