Jay kicks off fireworks July 3

Jay will host 5-K run Saturday; Poarch to fire off at dark on July 4

The town of Jay will kickoff this weekend's Fourth of July festivities with fireworks at Bray-Hendricks Park at dark Friday, July 3, followed by its annual 'Celebrate Freedom' 5K run Saturday morning and Poarch will launch its fireworks Saturday night at the Wind Creek Casino.

Between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., Friday, July 3, the town of Jay will have a fireworks display at Bray-Hendricks Park, located at 5259 Booker Lane. Bring chairs and sit to enjoy the celebration.

The 21st annual Celebrate Freedom 5K Road Race will start at 8 a.m., Saturday, July 4, at Bray-Hendricks Park

and the One Mile Fun Run will begin at approximately 9:15 a.m.

This year the Santa Rosa County Health Department will participate by having an information booth with educational material concerning healthy eating, healthy living, and how to become more physically active.

The run will kick-off with the singing of the national anthem and all the race amenities for a race in the country will be on hand. A $25 entry fee the day of the race pays for a t-shirt, a patriotic award, water, Gatorade, cookies, fruit, and watermelon. Part of the proceeds of the race go to the Jay Volunteer Fire Department and Jay High School Cross-Country Team.

Participants can register on-line at http://www.active.com and on July 4th, (day of the race) sbeginning at 6:30 a.m. at the park. Shirts are guaranteed to the first 75 registered runners and walkers. All registered participants are eligible for awards in 34 different age groups. Wind Creek will sponsor a fireworks display at 9 p.m., Saturday, July 4, in Atmore on Highway 21. It is free and open to the public.s
