Brewton resident jailed with drugs

A Brewton man who was listed as an escapee from Escambia County's Community Corrections Office was arrested Friday night in East Brewton with additional drug charges after officers found a large quantity of drugs inside a residence.

Devante Aaron Knight, 28, 210 Ball Lane, Lot 36, Brewton, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute (cocaine), unlawful possession of a controlled substance (Estacy), unlawful possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine), unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), unlawful possession of marijuana II and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sgt. Paige Howell with the East Brewton Police Department said a warrant was issued for the arrest of Knight for escape from community corrections. At 2 a.m. Friday, officers arrived at his residence to serve the warrant. Sgt. Howell noted Knight's girlfriend let the officers inside the home.

When officers entered the bedroom they observed the narcotics in plain view.

Howell reported Knight had 20.8 grams of cocaine, 20.9 grams of Estacy, 5.8 grams of crack cocaine, 1.3 grams of meth and 5.3 grams of marijuana.

Knight was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
