The Atmore Police Department is asking the public to help identify the person or persons responsible for the death of an Atmore man whose body was found early Saturday near the Patterson Street Apartments.

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said the police department received a 911 call at 1:24 a.m. April 25, in reference to a person who had been assaulted and suffered what appeared to be a gunshot and stab wound.

Atmore police and Atmore Ambulance Service were immediately dispatched near the 200 block of Patterson Street Apartments where they found the body of Desmond Deshun Dirden, 33, of Atmore.

Brooks reported that Dirden was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Brooks said no arrests have been made but the investigation is continuing. He added that the case is considered a homicide and if someone has any information they are asked to call the Atmore Police Department at 251-368-9141 or their nearest law enforcement agency.
