Julia Estelle Eubanks Low

Julia Estelle Eubanks Low, 96, of Brewton, died Saturday, April 11, 2020 in Birmingham.

Mrs. Low was born Sept. 17, 1923, to Lawrence Monroe and Julia Griffin Eubanks, in Lucedale, Miss. Growing up in Mobile, where she graduated from Murphy High School in 1940, she moved to New Orleans, where she earned a registered nursing degree and worked at Turo Infirmary. She met and married her husband there in 1945 and they moved to San Antonio, Texas, then Fort Benning, Ga. before relocating to Brewton in 1949. Employed as a nurse at New Hope Manor, she served many years as a Girl Scout Leader and board member at the Deep South Girl Scout Council in Mobile. She was awarded Woman of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce for her dedication of scouting. Active at First United Methodist Church, she served on the Worship Committee and was president of The Women of the Church before she moved to Birmingham, Ala. in 2014.

A private graveside service with a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

Mrs. Low is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Jean Low of Brewton, Julianne Low (John) Venable of Birmingham and Melanie Low (Charlie) Kettle of Monteagle, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Low was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert Edward Low; one infant daughter, Patricia Ann Low; her parents; and two brothers, Harold Low and William Low.
