COVID-19 Update

In its Friday update, the Escambia County (Ala.) Health Care Authority has announced there have been five confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus reported in Escambia County.

The report notes there have been six confirmed positive tests at Atmore Community Hospital and one confirmed positive test at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton. The five confirmed from Escambia County were Escambia County residents. Residents confirmed at local hospitals are counted in their home county. No deaths have been reported in Escambia County due to COVID-19.

Friday's report stated 151 people had been tested at the Atmore hospital and 81 people have been tested at the Brewton hospital.

Jason Daniels, director of public affairs and marketing for the health care authority, noted that due to timing the test numbers for the county may differ from the numbers reported on the Alabama Department of Public Health's website.

The health care authority will issue updates each Tuesday and Friday.

Daniels also noted hand-sewn masks are still needed in Atmore, Brewton and at the Flomaton Medical Center. The masks can be used by individuals who have been confirmed or may be suspected of having COVID-19 as a way to prevent spreading the virus to those around them.

Anyone interested in sewing masks can contact Bud Gideons in Atmore at 251-359-6523, Robin Griffin in Brewton at 251-363-1860 or Wanda Vanlandingham in Flomaton at 251-609-0827.
