Six arrested after gunshots

The Atmore Police Department continues to investigate a 911 call Friday about gunshots being fired on South Canoe Road that ended that day with five adults and one juvenile being arrested at the scene.

Police responded to the 12:29 p.m. 911 call and when they arrived they encountered several males claiming someone had shot at them, according to reports released by the Atmore Police Department.

The report stated that while questioning the males, a juvenile gave a wrong name to officers and was arrested by police. While in custody, the juvenile received another criminal charge of criminal mischief II due to damaging the rear window of a police car.

During the arrest of the juvenile, Atmore police reported the child's mother arrived on scene and was observed arguing with a nearby neighbor. The officer instructed the mother to stop arguing and come to them.

“The female refused to cooperate and became extremely belligerent with officers,” the report read.

Police then arrested the female and charged her with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

The report also states that while police were arresting the female, the officers were charged by the other males that were being detained. Officers then called for additional police. Additional officers from Atmore and Poarch arrived on the scene.

Names of those arrested have not been released. Atmore police continues its investigation of the original complaint of shots being fired and asks anyone with information to contact the police department at 251-368-9141.
