February 27, 2020
Jackie Gay, chairman of the Escambia County (Ala.) Republican Party, will be on Tuesday's Republican Primary ballot seeking to become a Trump delegate to the Republican National Convention.
Gay is seeking the Place 2 seat from the First Congressional District. The voting district includes Escambia, Baldwin, Mobile, Monroe and Washington counties along with small portion of Clarke County.
In addition to serving as chairman of the Escambia County GOP, Gay has served on the Alabama Republican Party's executive committee since 2009. Since 1998, Gay has been active in the Republican Party serving as a campaign volunteer in county and statewide races.
In 2016, Gay was elected to serve as an alternate delegate for Trump at the GOP convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
“It was a great week of enthusiasm and energy as delegates cast their votes on the floor, state by state,” Gay said. “The final night of the convention was a great celebration and a time for a new beginning for the country with the nomination of Donald. J. Trump for our next president.”
Gay noted potential delegates must pay $150 to get on the ballot and are responsible for all expenses associated with traveling to and from the convention, as well as lodging.
Gay has been a resident of Brewton since 1973. She is a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Youth Sunday School for more than 30 years. She is a retired church secretary and her volunteer activities include the Brewton Civic League, fund raising for Drexell and Honeybees, Sav-A-Life and the Brewton Council of the Arts.
