Woman faces felony charge

An Atmore woman who was made a ‘habitual traffic offender’ in 2015 was arrested Feb. 11 for driving while her license is suspended.

Jody Amanda Regina Simmons, 33, 76 South Canoe Road, was driving on Michigan Avenue in Pensacola when an officer, who had been told by another officer she did not have a valid driver's license, conducted a traffic stop, according to an Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office report.

The officer requested her driver's license when he made contact, and Simmons produced a Florida identification card. When the officer ran the identification card through dispatch, it showed Simmons had been made a habitual traffic offender in 2015 for a length of five years, the report said.

The officer then asked consent to search the vehicle and Simmons gave consent. A search of the vehicle revealed a blue pill with a stamp of 'VL', which tested positive for MDMA (Ecstasy), under the driver's seat.

Two occupants were in the vehicle and no one claimed ownership of the pill, the report said. The pill was placed in evidence for destruction and the car was secured and left on the scene, per request.

The passenger, later identified as John Brown, Jr., was released on the scene.

Simmons was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Jail and charged with one count felony driving while license revoked (habitual). She was given a bond of $2,500.
