Sex offender jailed

Brewton man working near EB day care

A Brewton man was arrested on two counts of violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act for failing to register and by working at a location that was less than 2,000 feet from a day care center in East Brewton.

Danny Hayes, 32, 130 Ball Lane, was arrested this week and jailed on $50,000 bond.

Court records show Hayes was convicted in 2012 in Escambia County, Fla., for sexual battery of a minor. He registered with the Escambia County, Ala., Sheriff's Office in June, 2016.

According to Escambia County Sheriff Heath Jackson, his office began investigating Hayes after receiving a complaint he had been stalking a woman.

The investigation led officers to discover that Hayes was doing yard work at a location on Shoffner Street in East Brewton. He not only failed to report his employment but the location was too close to the First Baptist Church's day care center.
