Leroy Johnson

Leroy Johnson, 86, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital in Gulfport, Miss.

Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 22, 1933, to Aubrey and Myrtle Johnson. He became a member of Belleville Missionary Baptist Church and served as a U.S. soldier for many years.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at Belleville Baptist Church with Min. Derrick Hassell officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Christian Memorial Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Joyce Johnson; three sons, Prince Johnson of Mississippi, Leroy Johnson, III (Desirae Tyree) of Evergreen and Byron Johnson of Virginia; four daughters, Bernadette Taylor of Maryland, Cheryl Johnson of Virginia, LaQuina Katrice Johnson (Sakinah Phifer) of Michigan and Monica Johnson (Aryanna and Josiah) of Mississippi; one brother, John (Diane) Johnson of Evergreen; two sisters, Ida Jean Straughn of Nebraska and Erma (Robert) Davison of Ohio; and numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other family members.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by one son, Cedric Cleon Johnson of Montgomery; five siblings, Anna Myrtle Johnson, Bernice Price, George Johnson, Aubrey Johnson and Otto Johnson, all of Evergreen; and his parents.
