Charge for Brewton man

A Brewton man was arrested Nov. 29 and charged with one count felony cocaine possession following a traffic stop.

Jonathan Lawrence Drew, 32, 201 Neal St., was traveling west in a silver Nissan Sentra on Highway 4 Nov. 29 when he was observed by a sheriff's deputy crossing over the center line several times, unable to maintain a single lane, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office report.

When the officer conducted a traffic stop, Drew told the officer he forgot his glasses at home and was having trouble seeing driving in Century, the report said.

The report said Drew became nervous while they spoke. The officer asked Drew if he could search him, to which Drew consented. The officer asked to search the vehicle and Drew gave permission, the report said.

Another officer on scene began searching the vehicle and discovered four small white pieces in rock form of what was determined to be crack cocaine with a total weight of .4 grams located loosely in the driver set of the vehicle.

When Drew was detained he told officers it was possibly left there by a friend who drove the vehicle, the report said. Drew stated he had a pipe near his genitals that he was concealing.

The officer located a small glass pipe which contained burn marks and a copper filter near his genitals.

Drew was arrested and charged with one count felony possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail, where he was given a bond of $5,000.
