ECRC offers new program

The Escambia Career Readiness Center’s Public Safety Program had the privilege of being the first Career Technical Center to host the Alabama Fire College’s Mobile Drill Tower. The Mobile Drill Tower offers recruits and firefighters the opportunity to train in many practical scenarios. The ECRC recruits were able to practice standpipe operations in multi-level structures, advancement of attack hoselines up stairwells, ladder operations, and rope repelling.

The MDT training scenarios allow recruits to combine practical and comprehensive knowledge enroute to achieving the Alabama Fire College’s Volunteer Firefighter Certification. Recruits that successfully complete the certification are eligible to be hired at a career fire department with an abbreviated program advancing their level of training to FireFighter II. Recruits can also join their respective local volunteer fire department and become a vital part of their community utilizing their training.

The partnership between the Alabama State Board of Education and the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission is revitalizing the fire service in our great state. There are numerous career technical centers throughout the state teaching Public Safety Programs like the one at ECRC. These programs are teaching young people the importance of community involvement and the valuable characteristics of public servants. The students of ECRC, volunteers from Appleton, McCall, and Wallace Volunteer Fire Departments, and firefighters from the Brewton Fire Department took advantage of training on the Mobile Drill Tower.
