EB man arrested for meth

An East Brewton man who was stopped after an officer ran his license plate number with negative results was arrested Oct. 4 after a search of the suspect revealed methamphetamine.

Derick William Fredric Daines, 26, 201 Grantham St., was traveling northbound on Lewis Road in Jay and crossed over Highway 4 onto Reeder Road when an officer ran the vehicle tag which was met with negative results on being assigned to any vehicle, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office report.

When the officer conducted the traffic stop, he made contact with the driver, identified as Daines, the report said. As the officer spoke with Daines, he observed a glass smoking pipe in Daines' lap, commonly used for smoking methamphetamine.

The officer asked the suspect to step out of the vehicle, the report stated. Daines was detained and escorted to the officer's patrol car, where the officer conducted a search of the suspect.

According to the report, the officer located an orange container in Daines' front left pocket which contained 2 small cellophane baggies with crystalline substance, which tested positive for methamphetamine. The weight of the meth was 1.3 grams, the report noted.

Daines was arrested and charged with one count felony possession of a controlled substance and one count misdemeanor possession of drug equipment and transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail, where he was given a total bond of $5,500.
